At Telluride Music Co., we are honored to be an Authorized Dealer of Collings guitars. The Collings 290DC pays tribute to the double cutaway “TV Special” guitars of the late ’50s, but it is built with the level of precision and attention to detail only a modern boutique builder on par with Collings can provide. This 290DC (serial #29016295) is constructed of two pieces of solid Honduran Mahogany—a one-piece neck set into a one-piece body. Although solid woods allow for smooth, natural response, increased sustain and rich woody tone, this type of true solid-wood construction is relatively rare in today’s market. With so much natural resonance and tone in the woods themselves, the custom-wound Jason Lollar P90s are the perfect fit. They are hot and full of single-coil sparkle—more than capable of pushing a tube amp into smooth, overdrive saturation—but they clean up nicely with the CTS custom-taper volume and tone pots. The overall result is a functional, versatile tone that shows off the wide harmonic and dynamic range of this iconic template. True to the Collings name, this 290 shows exceptional build quality and unparalleled attention to detail. A bone nut, Collings’ custom wraparound bridge, 18:1 gear ratio Gotoh tuning machines and 12″ fingerboard radius ensure that this 290 will suit the needs of even the most demanding players. We could resist ordering this one in Collings’ “1959 Faded Crimson” finish, which is accented beautifully with a tortoiseshell pickguard.
