At Telluride Music Co., we are honored to be an Authorized Dealer of Collings guitars. While many other builders across the globe build 14-fret dreadnoughts, few come close to Collings’ dreadnoughts. The Collings D1A is a cannon of a dreadnought. This D1A Vintage Now (serial #19457) packs impressive power, projection and fat bass response, but it is also warm and dynamic with articulate clarity. It features a solid Adirondack Spruce top that shows consistent grain and nice bear claw. Its Honduran Mahogany back and sides are beautifully matched, and they allow for its warm, rich and dry tone. We ordered this one with Collings’ Vintage Now neck profile, so it has a 1-3/4″ nut width and a 2-5/16″ string spacing at the saddle. The Vintage Now neck feels like a prewar neck that has been played. It is deeper than Collings’ standard Modified V profile, but it’s not quite as chunky as the Vintage profile. It feels rounder at open position, but you can feel a distinct V as you move up the neck. It’s a very comfortable profile that fits the prewar style of the D1A very nicely. Overall, this is an impressive instrument from an impressive builder. Please call (970) 728-9592 or e-mail for an in-hand description.
