After six years of building ukuleles—amid the rising popularity of Hawaiian music—C.F. Martin introduced the 5K Soprano Ukulele. In the tradition of style-45 guitars, the Martin 5K Ukulele is incredibly ornate and over the top, but in keeping with the quality of Martin’s instruments, it is a fine-sounding, articulate ukulele. This 2006 Martin 5K Soprano Ukulele is in near mint condition and shows minimal signs of play or use. Its body is constructed of solid highly-figured Koa, which would be gorgeous on its own, but its greenheart abalone top and back purfling—paired with an abalone rosette—give this one an aesthetic that is striking, but refined. It also has abalone snowflake inlays on a solid Ebony fingerboard, and its abalone-inlaid flowerpot on the peghead makes this ukulele hard to top. As for tone, this 5K Ukulele will not disappoint; it is warm and rich with nice response, and it seems unusually loud for a soprano. It’s hard to imagine a better-sounding and better-looking ukulele built with such an uncompromising commitment to quality than this 2006 Martin 5K Ukulele. Brand new, a Martin 5K will set you back over $1,000.00 more than our price on this one, so why waste your money when this 5K is like new and includes its original case?
