The Santa Cruz D Pre-War is an impressive take on the rosewood dreadnought template. Its appointments are discrete and understated, so its value is entirely held within the materials and the integrity of the instrument itself. This 2012 D/PW features solid Indian Rosewood back and sides and a solid Sitka Spruce top with scalloped, forward-shifted (advanced) braces. The result is a powerful tone, rich in overtones and deep in response. With a soft V neck profile and a 1-11/16″ nut width, this D/PW is a little more comfortable to players who prefer faster, modern necks over chunky, substantial prewar necks. Overall, this is a cannon of a dreadnought with cutting tone, and we love the simplicity of the design because it lets the instrument speak for itself, which it does loudly and powerfully.
