There is no question that the Fender Custom Shop builds some of the finest electric instruments available in today’s market. Even though Fender’s iconic flagship designs were refined decades ago, the Custom Shop still finds ways to introduce something new while paying homage to the company’s rich heritage and tradition. This 2014 Fender Custom Shop Proto Precision Bass is a great example of that. It features a solid quarter-sawn maple neck with the traditional ’51 Precision Bass headstock (that also reminds us of the ’70s Telecaster Basses). Its book-matched Alder body borrows from the later contoured-body design, but its chrome control plate and pickguard shape are more appropriate for the early ’50s. The result is an aesthetic that is decidedly Fender, but hard to pin down to any particular era or model. Apart from its familiar looks, though, this Proto P bass definitely adds something new to the Fender spectrum. Its wall-shaking tone is definitely fitting for a P Bass, but the TV Jones Thunderblade pickup is fat, rich and thunderous—plenty of power, punch, and blooming low end. The high-mass RSD tailpiece offers two options for superior tone; you can either string through the body for increased sustain, harmonics, and presence, or you can string through the bridge for a punchier, more dynamic tone. Built with premium components and a simple, easy-to-use breadth of features, the Proto Precision bass is quite a versatile instrument. This 2014 Proto P Bass is in near mint condition. It shows some superficial signs of play, but it is exceptionally clean cosmetically and has no repairs or issues. It includes its original tweed hardshell case and all of the original paperwork and case candy. Please call (970) 728-9592 or e-mail for an in-hand description.
